I think we all know the story of Greyfriars Bobby but what made me visit were the stories about the covenanter's graveyard and the mysterious attacks that have taken place during Edinburgh 's ghost tours. I wasn't sure how reliable these stories were but decided to pay a visit anyway.

It was 2pm and I photographed just about every crypt and gravestone in the cemetery! The main interest was the crypt of George Mackenzie who was the king's advocate put in place in Edinburgh to convert everyone to Catholicism. I took a number of photos of his crypt especially through the wrought iron screens to the entrance down stairs to the crypt. When we had finished and went for lunch as we were reviewing our pictures, only one of the several photographs had captured inside the crypt? We made our minds up that we would visit again around 8pm to take more photos in the dark - would we see anything else?

We did come across a few spirits just before entering as we spent an hour in the pub outside the graveyard until it got dark. We spent roughly three quarters of an hour back in the graveyard. When we got home and examined the pictures there was nothing to write home about. One possible orb at ground level in one of the crypts but everything else was normal.

Just maybe we left the pub before George Mackenzie did!

Made a visit to Greyfriars Cemetery in Edinburgh on February 2003.
